Hemorrhoid Pain Relief

Hemorrhoid pain relief does not have to be difficult if you have the information you need to treat your hemorrhoid condition.

Hemorrhoids can cause a lot of pain depending upon the severity of the condition and with some hemorrhoid conditions it can feel like a million needles are stabbing you all at the same time. Cold Ice Compresses

For immediate hemorrhoid pain relief prepare a cold compress of ice placed inside a soft cloth and then sit on the compress up to several times each day. Cold temperatures can provide a numbing effect to prolapsed hemorrhoids that are protruding from your anal opening and external hemorrhoids that have become irritated or thrombosed.

Over the Counter Treatments

There are a number of over the counter hemorrhoid treatments that can provide hemorrhoid pain relief. Some of the over the counter treatments include ointments such as Preparation H and other medicines that contain hydrocortisone or other numbing agents. Zinc oxide based creams will also help to provide pain relief. You can also use over the counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or Tylenol to seek relief from the pain and swelling of hemorrhoids.

Warm Bath

Sit in a warm bath consisting of solely warm water without soaps that contain perfumes or dyes. Sit in the bath for up to 20 minutes several times each day and then dry the area with a soft cloth. If you wish you can also use mild wipes that contain witch hazel and are free of any perfumes or harmful ingredients such as alcohol which can exacerbate your hemorrhoid condition.

Avoid Toilet Paper

Most brands of toilet paper are too harsh and will irritate your hemorrhoid condition which increases the pain. Instead wipe with moistened wipes that contain natural ingredients such as witch hazel. Keep the anal area clean after each bowel movement and make sure you dry the area thoroughly.

Use a Vasoconstrictor

Vasoconstrictors are chemicals that reduce swelling in blood vessels and they are often contained in topical treatments. When applied to the area affected by hemorrhoids they can help to provide hemorrhoid pain relief by reducing the swelling of hemorrhoid tissue.

Sit on an Inflated Ring

When you have to sit down use an inflated ring or pillow to reduce the pressure on hemorrhoids which cause pain and swelling of the tissues. Avoid sitting for prolonged periods of time, but when you do have to sit down sitting on an inflated ring or pillow will help to provide pain relief. You may want to consider one of these pain relief cushions.
