Hemorrhoid symptoms are a common annoyance for many people. What are Hemorrhoids?Hemorrhoids are a common condition that can occur at any time and with people of all ages. As a general rule most symptoms related to hemorrhoids are not serious however, some cases warrant medical attention to prevent the condition from getting worse.
Hemorrhoids or hemroids as it is commonly misspelled, are also known as “piles” and are tissues that contain veins that become enlarged from repeated pressure on the anal veins causing them to separate from their normal formation. The result can be minor bleeding and other symptoms that may develop into blood clots or other complications. Hemorrhoids and “hemroids” are one and the same condition.

Description of Hemorrhoid SymptomsThere are a variety of symptoms that can signal a hemorrhoid condition. Here is a description of hemorrhoid symptoms to help you determine whether or not it is necessary to consult a doctor for treatment of the condition.Rectal Bleeding Although rectal bleeding can occur as a result of a number of different health problems, it is also a symptom of a hemorrhoid condition. If the rectal bleeding is occurring close to the anal opening you will begin to notice minimal blood on toilet paper that is bright red in color. This can occur as a result of straining to pass stools. You may also notice bright red blood in your stool after you have passed it or in the toilet bowl.
Rectal Itching Rectal itching or anal itch is a common hemorrhoid symptom. It can be mild, moderate, or severe depending upon the condition and can be prolonged over a period of time if the hemorrhoid condition persists. Rectal itching occurs when the anal area is affected by the presence of hemorrhoids which causes irritation of the skin at the opening of the rectal area. The intensity of an anal itch can increase with additional moisture, pressure, or periods of prolonged sitting.
Rectal Pain Rectal pain is another common hemorrhoid symptom that is caused by swelling of the veins in the anal canal that become stretched and distorted. Rectal pain can result from both external and internal hemorrhoids. If the hemorrhoids are external rectal pain is caused by swollen veins that can be felt under your skin outside of the rectal opening. If the hemorrhoids are internal rectal pain can be caused by swollen veins that form inside the rectum or by hemorrhoids that protrude from the anal opening.
Skin Irritation If the hemorrhoids have become enlarged to the point where they protrude from the anus, skin irritation can result from mucus that oozes out of the hemorrhoid. This can result in a rash that forms on the skin or the surface of the skin will be inflamed and sensitive to touch.
Unfinished Defecation A feeling of unfinished defecation is another symptom of hemorrhoids that can leave you feeling like you need to have repeated bowel movements. It can result in the feeling of rectal fullness creating the urge to defecate unnecessarily.
Hemorrhoids Skin Tag You may notice a lump in the opening of the anus where your anal canal meets the outside of the anal opening. This lump may be a hemorrhoids skin tag. If you find one of these, be sure to see your physician.
Protruding Hemorrhoid You may find that you have a protruding hemorrhoid that will contract back into the anal opening following a bowel movement. This type of hemorrhoid can get progressively worse if not treated right away.
Although hemorrhoids are generally not life threatening, if you are experiencing any of the symptoms of hemorrhoids we have described here and the problem appears to persist, it is always a good idea to play it safe and consult your physician regarding proper treatment and diagnosis of your hemorrhoid condition . A physician consultation will also rule out the possibility of another underlying condition such as ulcerative proctitis that may disguise itself in the form of hemorrhoid symptoms.
