Facts about Men and Hemorrhoids

Men and Hemorrhoids

Men and hemorrhoids are as common as impotence and other health factors that affect over one-half of men between the age of 45 and 65. Hemorrhoid conditions in men are common due to the fact that men often engage in strenuous work involving the heavy lifting of objects. Also, men often use weightlifting as a means for staying in shape which can exacerbate a hemorrhoid condition if you lift in excess.

So why are hemorrhoids prevalent in men between the ages of 45 and 65 and what are some of the causes and symptoms with men and hemorrhoids?

Causes of Hemorrhoids in Men

In addition to lifting heavy objects which can cause a hemorrhoid condition to become progressively worse, there are other conditions that affect men and hemorrhoids. These are just a couple of the causes of hemorrhoids in men.
  • Constipation

  • As a general rule, a man’s diet sometimes does not include enough fiber. This is an essential ingredient that you get from fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, that helps to prevent constipation. Constipation encourages straining during bowel movements which causes a hemorrhoid condition to appear. Since men tend to favor fast food for their busy life style and a lot of red meats, diet is an issue when dealing with a hemorrhoid condition.

  • Diarrhea

  • Just as constipation can cause a hemorrhoid condition the opposite is also true. Excessive diarrhea can cause the anal muscles to expand and contract which creates pressure on the swollen veins of the hemorrhoids. This can cause the hemorrhoids to rupture and bleed. Diarrhea can further exacerbate the condition by irritating the tissues around the hemorrhoids which causes the condition to accelerate.

  • Rectal Bleeding

  • Rectal bleeding occurs when pressure is applied to the swollen vein in the hemorrhoids around the anal area. This causes bleeding in the rectum and the condition is identified by bright red blood in your stool, on toilet paper, and in the toilet bowl.

  • Rectal Itching

  • Rectal itching or anal itching happens when the hemorrhoids become irritated and inflamed which causes the urge to scratch. If you continue to scratch the area, the hemorrhoids become inflamed and the condition is exacerbated which causes increased discomfort.

  • Rectal Pain and Discomfort
